








Lenny Phillips and Malia Mason were the men's and women's division winners, respectively, yesterday in the four-mile Aiea Akabill Trail run in Aiea Heights State Park. Phillips, Mason finish
first in Aiea Trail runPhillips finished in 33 minutes, one second, comfortably ahead of runner-up Mark McDermott, who was timed in 33:58. Ben Cavazos placed third in 35:42.
Mason was clocked in 38:46. Rachel Leber finished second in 42:45 while Mary Conway was third with a time of 45:23.
SHUTO STARS DEFEATMOVERS: Shinya Aoyama hit a three-run homer to left field in the top of the ninth inning to rally the Shuto League All-Stars of Japan to a 4-1 victory, their first, over the Hawaii Island Movers in an exhibition baseball game at Rainbow Stadium yesterday.
The Movers had tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth when Lars Hansen singled and scored on a double to center by Jamie Aloy.
Tsuneyuki Iso allowed just four hits, walked seven but struck out 12 for the visitors.
The four-game series concludes at 6 tonight at Rainbow Stadium.
ASICS TEAMS PLACE: At Davis, Calif., the Asics Rainbow Volleyball Club's 12-and-under team finished second among 26 teams at the recent Davis Volleyball Festival.
Coached by Joey Miyashiro, team members were Kelly Cho, Marissa Chow, Ashley Dutro, Kanoe Kamanao, Ashley Kau, Megan Watson and Shellane Ogoshi.
The Asics Rainbow 14-1s took third place out of 192 teams while the 14-2s finished 25th. Team members of the 14-1s were Kalae Araujo, Nohealani Burgess, Nanea Holmes, Maxine Karimoto, Kaala Lo, Milia MacFarlane, Beth Nakamura, Jadee Tanabe, Kimberly Tano and Melissa Wilton.
The 16-2s finished 63rd out of 344 teams while the 18-2s were 66th and 18-3s finished 137th out of 240 teams.
At the USA Junior National Volleyball Tournament in Denver, the 16-1s, coached by Dennis Berg, finished 23rd out of 32 teams. The 18-1s, coached by Charlie Wade, placed 11th among 32 teams.
Incoming University of Hawaii freshman Jessica Sudduth and Jameka Stevens were named to the all-tournament team. They competed for Nike Ichiban, which finished second in the event.
The 16-1s roster included Casey Castillo, Jyoti Mau, SyRina Makainai, Rosalyn Dang, Monica Karimoto, Kym Igano, Mahealani Burgess, Jessica VanBuskirk, Makale'a Chang and Ku'uipo Simeona.
The 18-1s players were Lindsey Berg, Summer Jennings, Justine Kamelamela, Kailey Reyes, Lindsay Chang, Monica Karimoto, Tehani Miyashiro, Ana Ramos, Shauntay Fletcher and Vanessa Tsukano.
MAUI WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL: The Maui Women's Golf Invitational will be held Aug. 2-3 at the Waiehu Course, starting at 7 each morning.
Entry fee is $75 and the registration deadline is Sunday. There will be low gross and low net competition in four flights.

COMMUNITY CENTER BENEFIT: The Moiliili Community Center is sponsoring a benefit golf tournament Aug. 22 at the Ala Wai Course beginning with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
The entry fees are $60 per person and $180 per three-person team. The format is a three-person scramble.

LANAI GOLF TOURNAMENT: The annual Lanai Invitational golf tournament is set for Aug. 16 at the Olomana Links with check-in at 11:30 a.m.
The event is open to Lanai residents, former residents, spouses and dependents.

CLASSIC TICKETS AVAILABLE: Two-day passes are on sale for the two-day Hawaiian Style Classic collegiate volleyball tournament, Aug. 29-30, at Afook-Chinen Civic in Hilo.
The passes cost $7.50 and are being sold by the Girl Scout units in Puna, Keaau and Hilo; Hui Popa'ipa'i Nawahi; Na Hulali Volleyball Club and at Pahoa High. Each organization will receive a $2.50 commission for each pass sold.
The tournament features three-time defending NAIA champion Brigham Young-Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific, Biola, Cal Poly Pomona, St. Martin's, Bellarmine, Minnesota-Morris, Western Oregon and host Hawaii-Hilo. NEW SOCCER LEAGUE: The College Prep Invitational Soccer League will start in mid-September and end before the high school season.
The league is designed for those who want to play college soccer and want to be better prepared for collegiate competition.
The league will have four teams (64 players) and will play three rounds (nine games).
