


Naveh Milo, a three-year starter on the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team, and Nani Cockett, the WAC Pacific player of the year in women's basketball, are the winners of the 1998 Jack Bonham Award, considered the most prestigious honor in UH athletics. UHs Milo, Cockett named
Jack Bonham Award winnersMilo, a senior from Israel who was an All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation spiker last year, is second in the nation in digs per game this season. He carries a 2.4 grade point average in geography and his community service work includes helping Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children and Kuakine Medical Center and working with Jewish youth in the community.
Cockett, a Kamehameha Schools graduate completing her fifth year in the UH volleyball program, is the second leading scorer in UH Wahine basketball history and holds school records for 3-point goals, steals and blocked shots. She has a 3.1 grade point average in psychology.
Other nominees for the award, named for the late assistant athletic director who was killed in a 1974 plane crash, were Chris Shinnick (football), Eric Ambrozich (men's basketball), Cecelia Goods (women's volleyball) and Tia Morenz (softball).
The winners were announced yesterday during the Scholar-Athlete breakfast at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH SWEEPS SOFTBALL HONORS: Freshman Desiree Duran was named pitcher of the week and junior second baseman Regina Ka'aihili took player of the week honors in Western Athletic Conference softball after UH's four-game series sweep of New Mexico.
Duran was 2-0 in two appearance, pitching a four-hit shutout as a starter after winning an earlier game in relief. Ka'aihili was 4-for-9, with two home runs, a double and eight RBIs against the Lobos.
