A couple of months ago, I received a flyer for happy hour at PF Chang’s China Bistro via e-mail.

The flyer hyped martini specials and a special pau hana menu, and I liked that happy hour was in effect from 3 to 6 p.m. Nice and early!

Think you’ve got the talent to sing country music in front of an audience?

Want to win $100,000 on national television?

The 26th annual “Colgate Country Showdown” is underway, and your next chance to qualify for the national championships is at 6 p.m. Thursday at Zanzabar in Waikiki.

Last week, Scott Wallace took first place during the first preliminary round, followed by Joey Starry and Colby Benson in second and third place, respectively.

Thursday’s top three will move on with them to the “Out of the West” finals on July 20 at 7 p.m. at Aloha Tower Marketplace, with that night’s winner moving on to the next round of competition in California.

Glenn Chu (pictured above) will oversee all culinary aspects of the sixth annual “Samuel Adams Beer Dinner” at Indigo on Thursday.

The five-course meal pairs a different brew with each dish, and has turned out to be a popular event. As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, only six open seats remain.

If you decide to check out Action Zone Wrestling’s two-year anniversary shows at the FilCom Center in Waipahu, resist the urge to yell “That’s My Bank!” at Daryl Bonilla (pictured above).

When in the squared circle, he’s known as “Dangerous” Daryl Bonilla, aka DDB.

Besides, the Bank of Hawaii commercials he starred in don’t air anymore.

Ask any battle MC who knows what they’re doing, and they’ll tell you the Super Bowl of the freestyle world is the annual “Scribble Jam” in Cincinnati, Ohio. For more than a decade, all four cornerstones of hip-hop have been represented at the event.

Hawaii’s own Big Mox made the trip last year (that video above is from a $50 street battle that went down outside the venue), and it seems he did enough networking to get organizers to sit up and take notice of the scene here in the islands.

Local mixed martial arts fighter Falaniko Vitale (pictured above) will follow up on his X-1 win in March against Mavrick Harvey with an appearance on Aug. 4 at Blaisdell Arena.

Vitale’s opponent hasn’t been named, but he will use the fight to help raise money for his new non-profit partnership with Central Pacific Youth.
