It’s good to see Lotus Soundbar celebrating its first year in business this weekend.
Waikiki has definitely seen an improvement in late-night options as of late, with a decent concentration on Kuhio Ave. between Lotus and the Waikiki Trade Center. Throw in the Beach Walk area and the Diamond Head end of Kalakaua (both just a short walk/cab ride away), and it’s easy to plan a full night of fun.

Parking is still a challenge, but Lotus has done a great job of attracting the tourist crowd with an all-star roster of both national and international DJs.
And while they’re not the names and faces you’d necessarily recognize from MTV or the radio, true heads have respected Lotus’ niche and responded favorably.
Your own musical tastes will dictate which night to attend this weekend. If you’re into house, Chicago-based DJ Johnny Fiasco (pictured) is the headliner on Friday. He’ll be joined by DJ Marlon in the main room, while DJs DBox and JT spin hip-hop on the first floor.
On Saturday, do your part to support local hip-hop and get there early to see Creed Chameleon, Hunger Pains, The Spacifics and Kavet the Catalyst perform before the main event with $martyr – also known as 2Mex and Life Rexall.
DJs K-Ing, Packo, Revise and Technique will also be on hand, with Ion Myke hosting the night. Doors open at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; call 924-1688 for more info.
