Texas-based rockers Bowling for Soup were in town last weekend for a military benefit concert with country stars Montgomery Gentry.
The show was on Saturday, but two members of the group showed up at Clear Channel Hawaii’s Iwilei studios last Thursday for a private show in the new Road Runner Music Hall.
While the idea of building out studio space to accomodate live performances isn’t new, Clear Channel Hawaii general manager Chuck Cotton did an excellent job of repurposing an underutilized storage area to provide the first venue of its kind here in the islands.
Housing seven stations under one roof makes it pretty easy to find a host for the show. Star 101.9 afternoon jock Maleko was on hand to pump up the crowd and introduce Bowling for Soup’s Jaret Reddick and Erik Chandler:
Here are the guys with Cotton, left, and special events manager Kevin Jones, third from left. Jones is the person responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Road Runner Music Hall; you might also remember him as the former host of “TRX TV” on OC16.
Reddick and Chandler played for almost an hour, but took plenty of time to joke around and interact with their audience. Reddick even put down his guitar at one point to bang on a set of conga drums that were set up on stage.
More audience shots:
After their set was pau, Reddick and Chandler graciously signed autographs and took pictures with whoever wanted to stand in line, including a couple of jocks from Star:
