Jason Mraz concert moved to Shell [VIDEO]
Thursday, April 10th, 2008 by Jason GenegabusFinally got confirmation that Jason Mraz’s return to Honolulu will be at the Waikiki Shell and not the Blaisdell Concert Hall, as originally announced.
If you were able to buy tickets at the Blaisdell Box Office or Times Supermarket locations on Oahu before they sold out last weekend, you’ll be able to exchange them for reserved seats at the Shell starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Exchanges must take place at the original point of purchase, and you have until April 26 to do so. Those who purchased online or by phone will have their tickets exchanged automatically; if you’re not happy with your new seats, call (877) 750-4400 and choose option number two for a different seating assignment.
Don’t have tickets? Advance general admission lawn tickets, priced at $25, go on sale at the same time exchanges begin on Saturday.

Monday, April 7th, 2008 by Jason GenegabusThoughts on 50 Cent [PICS/VIDEO]
Monday, March 31st, 2008 by Jason GenegabusI’ve got to admit I’m a little surprised at the lack of 50 Cent fans in Honolulu.
Rough estimates pegged Friday’s crowd at about 3,000 people (a bit generous, if you ask me). That’s only a few hundred more than his first trip here five years ago.
Most of the crowd appeared to be in their 20’s and 30’s, with a few parents walking around with teenagers (and pre-teens, WTF!?!?) in tow.
In case you missed it, I reviewed the concert in yesterday’s Star-Bulletin.
Staff photographer Jamm Aquino was kind enough to provide a few more pictures from that night, so I’ve got those posted after the jump. There’s also a short video clip from EMIRC’s opening performance.
ICON Sport: To Hell and Back [VIDEO]
Monday, March 17th, 2008 by Jason GenegabusIn case you missed it, here is video from the final round of Saturday night’s “ICON Sport: To Hell and Back” main event.
Unfortunately, seating issues meant that I had to watch all the action from upstairs at the Blaisdell. This footage was the best I could get from my vantage point.
But still… WHAT A FIGHT! I’m really impressed that Kala “Kolohe” Hose was able to stick to his game plan and let Phil Baroni run out of gas before stepping in to finish him. The semi-main event between Jeremy Williams and Auggie Padeken was another exciting bout.
New Pimpbot album available online [AUDIO/VIDEO]
Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 by Jason GenegabusLocal rock/ska/reggae band Pimpbot is getting ready to drop their sophomore release, “Admit One,” and they’ve been on their promotional grind in recent weeks to drum up support in the community.
The album is already available for purchase online via the band’s label, Pass Out Records, a week before fans can purchase CD copies at retail. Pimpbot also plans to debut the music video for the first single, “Baseball,” on the same day the album is available in stores.

Questlove vs. Travis Barker [VIDEO]
Thursday, February 14th, 2008 by Jason GenegabusJust in case you need some inspiration to get off the couch and check out Questlove at Pipeline on Saturday, take a look at the above video of the drummer from the Roots during a freestyle jam session with Travis Barker.
More details about Saturday’s concert in my column, “In the Mix,” which appears in HiLife this afternoon for subscribers as well as tomorrow’s print and online editions.

The best Super Bowl commercials [VIDEO]
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008 by Jason Genegabus
What a finish. Even if you’re not a Giants (or Patriots) fan, Super Bowl XLII was definitely a game worth watching.
Also worth watching – not surprisingly – were the commercials.
Who would have ever thought MySpace.com would partner with advertisers to make every single commercial available online?
Check out my favorites after the jump.
‘X-1: Champions’ highlights [VIDEO]
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 by Jason Genegabus
One final post about last weekend’s “X-1: Champions” mixed martial arts event at the Blaisdell.
If you weren’t able to make it to the fights, didn’t bother to follow my live blog from the night or are too cheap to order the pay-per-view replay on Oceanic digital cable, I’ve got a highlight video posted after the jump.

Life in the Flash Lane [VIDEO]
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 by Jason Genegabus
If you’ve seen local promoter Flash Hansen (pictured above, with Matty Boy Hazelgrove and yours truly at the Wave Waikiki in 2006) out and about lately, then you’ve probably wondered what the deal is with that camera guy that’s been following him around.
Well, there’s a video posted on YouTube that provides the first look at “Life in the Flash Lane,” a new reality show in production.
From what I understand, there’s a two-person crew tailing Hansen during his parties at Señor Frog’s and the Hanohano Room on Oahu, and I think they’ve followed him to Kauai for “Release” as well. There’s also footage from Flash and Matty Boy’s New Year’s Eve party last month at the W Honolulu.
I’m not sure if this idea is golden or a recipe for disaster… but judging from the preview, it’s going to be a fun ride either way.
WARNING: There is nudity and adult language in the video.
