Next week’s “Ultimate Tribute Festival to Bob Marley” at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, also known as “Bob Fest,” features a number of big-name reggae acts, including Alpha Blondy, Morgan Heritage and Tanya Stephens.
But one of the more intriguing bands is Public Property, which boasts two members with Hawaii ties: David Bess, a 1999 ‘Iolani grad (Go Raiders! Cheeeeeeee!), and Mareva Minerbi, who graduated the same year from Mid-Pacific Institute.
I got a chance to chat with Bess earlier this week, which resulted in this story that appears in today’s HiLife section of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Public Property will be in town all month, with a number of gigs lined up around Oahu and possibly more on the way. For a sample of the band’s sound, check out this track from their MySpace page:

We also have items in HiLife this week that give you all the scoops on Fat Tuesday and Chinese New Year, plus another take on the great Bob Marley’s birthday coming up next week and our staff picks for this weekend.
And be sure to check out Crawlspace for details on DJ Sovern-T’s own tribute to Mr. Marley, and yet another Mardi Gras party next week at RumFire.
