Jammin’ Hawaiians [PICS]

It was packed during Saturday’s “Jammin’ Hawaiians” at the Waikiki Shell.
According to promoters Mass Appeal Entertainment and Musical Youth of Hawaii, a sold-out crowd of 8,000 saw Fiji share the stage with J Boog, Laga Savea and Big Every Time’s Papa T, while Jamaican artist Lukie D nearly stole the show with a set that brought him up close and personal with the Shell crowd.
I’ve got more than 30 pictures from the concert after the jump; check out my previous post for video.
It’s been a while since the last big show at the Shell, but the protocol is still the same. Some come early to stake out enough space on the lawn, but the vast majority tailgate in the parking lot and surrounding neighborhoods.
That’s what it looked like when I got inside just after 5 p.m. Missed a couple of acts that I wanted to see, but did manage to catch newcomers Rebel Souljahz at the end of their set.
KCCN FM-100 morning jock Lina Girl was the MVP on the hosting side, teaming with J-Irie to keep things moving all night:
Ilona Irvine:
Laga Savea:
Big Every Time:
With Joe “JD” Daniels unable to perform because of his legal issues, Tim “Papa T” Troxell had to find a replacement ASAP. This is Pao Roberts, from American Samoa, who joined the group a few weeks ago:
O-Shen:
The Mana’o Company:
Kawao:
Beach 5:
Ekolu:
Lukie D:
Took this picture while laying on my back, after Lukie D jumped off the stage and balanced himself on the concrete divider that separates the pit area from reserved seats:
A little better view of him performing for the crowd at the Shell:
Before Fiji came out to close the night, this little dude helped lead a chant to introduce him:
Then the man himself came out and gave people what they wanted. With all his friends on stage to help him out, Fiji also found time to send a shout out to the soldiers in Iraq and all the former employees of Aloha Airlines before the night was over:
Here’s a few more pictures I took during the evening:
