Hope you’re ready for this weekend… Monday is Memorial Day, and a number of local promoters are planning special events during the three-day weekend.
I’ll have most of the parties listed on Friday in the Star-Bulletin’s HiLife section. Be sure to check out “In the Mix” and “Nightcrawlers” on Friday before you make plans.
Can’t wait? Get started tonight with Abe Lagrimas Jr., pictured above, at the Honolulu Club.

Lagrimas is a regular performer the club’s lounge, which features live music every week during its “Jazz Wednesdays” promotion. This week’s special guest is guitarist Rick Schmunk.
The music starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight, but be sure to get there a little early in order to score a good seat …
TOMORROW NIGHT, the Ocean Club tries to salvage what used to be known as “Paddler’s Night” at the Restaurant Row nightspot.
After a management change a few months back, Oceans tried to mix things up a bit on Thursdays, turning the night into an amateur pole dancing competition.
Is there any mystery as to WHY that particular idea flopped?
Didn’t think so.
Now, Oceans is trying to bring the crowds back by loosening the dress code a bit.
The new “Surfer Girl Thursdays” party is now an option for those who want to wear an aloha shirt and shorts in the club (although slippers are still a no-no).
Doors open early for pau hana, with half-priced pupus before 8 p.m.
The party continues until 4 a.m. for the 21-and-over crowd, with DJs Big John and SubZero on the decks and $2 Corona/$3 Crown specials all night.
MOVING ALONG to Friday… There’s a new package deal available for people who want an all-inclusive night out with friends.
Optimum Effect Alliance presents the “VIP Yacht Party,” which includes drinks and pupus at the Living Room, fireworks from the waterfront, a booze cruise on the Makani catamaran, transportation to Waikiki and complimentary access to “The Circus” at Cirque Hawaii.
The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and is open to those 21-and-over. Tickets are $65; call 758-4970 for reservations …
ON SATURDAY, don’t forget about the Don Carlos concert at the Waikiki Shell.
There’s also “Denim and Diamonds,” a fundraiser for the Hawaii Dental Association Dental Samaritans.
From 6 p.m. to midnight, the Hanohano Room will play host to performances by Jordan Segundo, Rocky Brown, DeShannon Higa and Jose Dynamite. Kutmaster Spaz will be on the turntables, with Island 98.5’s Lanai handling hosting duties.
Single tickets for this one are $125; e-mail Kim Koga (kimkogaodc [at] hawaii [dot] rr [dot] com) for details …
SUNDAY BRINGS us James Coles’ old school picnic at Ala Moana Beach Park during the day, with “House of Wax” at Pipeline Cafe that night and Nina Sky performing at Fashion 45.
And don’t forget to tune into Stone Groove Radio on Sunday at midnight… listen live on 102.7 Da Bomb, or watch online at www.stonegrooveradio.com …
