The Luck named ‘Best MySpace Rapper’ in Hawaii [AUDIO/VIDEO]

Last week, Vibe Magazine released their picks for the 51 best rappers on popular social networking site MySpace.com.
That’s one MC for every state, plus the District of Columbia.
My first thought when I heard about the list was (of course):
Who made it from Hawaii?
Well, there he is, rocking a pink theme in the picture above (please, don’t get me started on my thoughts about grown men wearing that color in public).
The Luck, aka Lucky Loochie, appears to be a relative newcomer to the 50th state.
And after looking at his MySpace profile, it seems Lucky is stationed here while serving in the military, and his greatest claim to fame was opening for E-40 during his Honolulu appearance back in May.
Here’s a track he’s posted on MySpace, called “Always Thug It”:
What’s kind of strange, to me at least, is that this guy doesn’t really seem to represent Hawaii at all. Other than mentioning on his profile that he’s from Honolulu, there aren’t many (if any) references to the 808, and not a single one of his top friends is another Hawaii-based hip-hop artist.
On the other hand, the guys from Laborynth Records will remind you where they’re from on just about every verse they spit. They’ve also taken a page from west coast rapper Crooked I, promising to post a new freestyle on their profile page every week in November.
Here’s their latest freestyle submission, “Reckless Abandon” by Bladez Whyte:
Laborynth isn’t the only crew making moves, either. Gritty Fifty Recordings artist (and Leilehua graduate) Wun recently dropped a new single, “Stick Em,” with an accompanying music video:
Another cool thing about that song is that it also features the work of local producers SlappSymphony.
And I know I’ve already blogged about NoMasterBacks and their new album, but it’s worth sharing with you one more time.
Here’s the video for their latest single, “New Rules,” which was filmed at Restaurant Goldfish in Kakaako:
While it’s all good that Vibe wants to honor someone living here in Hawaii, my only gripe is that they didn’t dig deep enough when making their decision.
The Luck deserves no disrespect. But he sure was lucky to be selected instead of several other local artists who deserve the recognition.

It does not matter what city or state he reps. The man is talented!
He is talented! And he does have songs that represent the 808 state.
