I first heard about this in September (and posted about it here), but now it’s official:
The Police will play the Blaisdell Arena on Feb. 16.
Currently on tour in Central and South America, The Police have already played to more than 1.5 million fans worldwide. And now, due to overwhelming demand, [Hawaii] fans will have the opportunity to catch the top selling tour of the year.
The Billboard Award winning trek will reach Neal S. Blaisdell Center Arena on Saturday, February 16th. Fiction Plane will join as special guests.
Tickets will go on sale Saturday, December 1st at 9 AM (HST) and will be available at www.LiveNation.com, all Ticketmaster retail outlets, including the Blaisdell Center Box Office, Times Supermarkets and the BYU Student Activity Center, plus via charge-by-phone (1-877-750-4400) and at www.ticketmaster.com.
Ticket prices were not announced.

Man I remember attending a dance at Hemenway Hall at UH Manoa as a student. I graduated in 74′ and I started in 70′. They had a band called The Police and they played a song called Roxanne, something about turning off a red light. They were real good, considering, it was a free dance (anyway by today’s standards it was free). Is this the same band? I’m 55 today.
The Police do have a song called “Roxanne.”
But I wasn’t born until 1977, so I have no idea if they came to play at UH in the early ’70s.
Maybe John Berger knows?
I’ve heard many a story about a band called The Police playing at UH Andrews Ampitheatre during the 70’s and those who saw them claim that it was the then unknown band the one and the same. This is the first I heard of them playing at a dance in Hemenway hall but I suppose it could be the one and the same.
Yes the Police did play at UH in the 70’s.
