HMC appoints administrators for its 2 hospitals

Hawaii Medical Center, which has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization since August, has named hospital administrators for its two hospitals, both newly created positions.
Paul Ross, formerly director of oncology and research services, was promoted to administrator of HMC East in Liliha.
Ross will oversee operations at the East Campus and manage corporate clinical functions and HMC's Centers of Excellence, including the Pacific Transplant Institute and Thoracic Tumor Clinic.
Ross has more than 30 years of research and medical administration experience.
Michael Matwichyna, formerly administrator of operations for radiology associates, was selected as administrator of HMC West in Ewa Beach. Matwichyna will manage operations at the West campus and oversee functions including facilities, environmental sciences, food and nutrition, and biomedical engineering.
Meanwhile, Salim Hasham, HMC's chief restructuring officer, who previously was the administrator of both hospitals, has taken on the additional title of chief operations officer. He will be responsible for providing leadership in the hospitals' restructuring process to meet the company's turnaround goals.
Hasham will oversee hospital operations at both campuses. He has more than 30 years of experience in global project and health care institutional transition, change and turnaround situations.
The company, which is the state's only physician-owned and for-profit hospital, is currently negotiating with various stakeholders on its reorganization plan after laying off nearly 150 employees last year during its initial restructuring.
The hospitals offer a combined 342 licensed beds.
