ISLE PROTEST GROUP DECRIES GAZA VIOLENCE: Members of multifaith groups, organized by the Muslim Association of Hawaii, protested the violence in Gaza yesterday afternoon as they placed flags in the ground representing the casualties, in front of the state Capitol. Israeli troops and tanks made their way through the center of Gaza yesterday, taking control of rocket-launching areas. In Gaza, residents faced severe power shortages as the reported death toll passed 500, of whom 100 were said to be civilians.

HONORING HAWAIIAN ICONS: Kahauanu Lake enjoyed the view yesterday afternoon during an American Masterpieces concert, a tribute to musician Lake and his late wife, hula master Maiki Aiu Lake, held at the Mamiya Theatre in Kaimuki. The intimate celebration, which also marked Lake's 77th birthday, included a casual forum moderated by kumu hula Michael Pili Pang and a reunion of dancers, along with friends and family who performed hula to the music of the Kahauanu Lake Trio.
