“SHINE” A SMASH AT BONSAI: Nightclub event promoter Bryan Simpson was surrounded by partyers — including Hoka Miyazaki, left, Hisao Yoshikawa (behind Miyazaki), Nancy Do, Mahea Mahiai and Nina Atmospera — when “Shine,” his weekly Saturday night party, filled Bonsai at Restaurant Row. So many people turned out to party with Simpson and Sam the Man of 102.7 “Da Bomb” that the chic multilevel restaurant/club was filled to capacity on all three levels, plus the outside lanai. The best bet for people who want to have the optimal “Shine” experience is to get there fashionably on time or pay for a reserved table with bottle service.

Lubuw Falanruw, center, took the entire top level of Bonsai on Saturday to celebrate his birthday with a party-hearty crowd that included Lokelani Tully, left, Steven Buchen, Colleen Angeles and Eddie Quan. Guests received laminated ID passes that showed Falanrun as Uncle Sam in the classic “Uncle Sam Wants You” pose, but with a new slogan: “For the U in Lubu.”
TSEU, MOSER PREVAIL IN PAGEANTS: Fashion designer Takeo, left, and Eric Eugene Kamakahia‘ai Chandler welcomed newly crowned Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2009 Ashley Moser, second from left, and Miss Hawaii USA 2009 Aureana Kim Len Tseu to a post-pageant dinner with the judges and other VIPs Nov. 23 at the Sheraton Waikiki. The win was especially sweet for Tseu, who won the Miss Hawaii Teen USA title in 1999 and was first runner-up in the Miss Hawaii USA competition last year.
Pageant judges Marisa Gey, seated left, Lynn Madden and John Henry Felix, standing center, shared a table with Ed Keough, his wife, Leilani Keough, and this year’s pageant co-emcee Kaitlyn Metcalf. The event was Ed Keogh’s first night out since he was injured in a fall several months ago, and it was a big night for Metcalf as well; she gave as good as she got emceeing the proceedings with Eric Chandler.
“TACO 2SDAYS” DEBUTS AT SENOR FROG’S: Sales Manager Chris Harris, left, welcomed “Big Beer Dave” Randall Jr., his parents, KITV newscaster Jill Kuramoto and “Big Beer Dave” Randall Sr., and kumu hula Manu Boyd to the formal debut party for “Taco 2sDays” last Tuesday at Senor Frog’s Honolulu in the Royal Hawaiian Center.

Julie Aragaki, left, joined Chef Paco Dardon, Nicolaz Morales, Alba Patina, Rafael Tellez and Angela Geronimo as they took a break to pose for a group shot. “Taco 2sDays” resumes today as a once-weekly pau hana event featuring two-for-$2 tacos and several $2 drink specials.
