KAMAE CONCERT CAPS PRE-CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS: Hawaiian music master Eddie Kamae, third from left, helped bring in Christmas two days early as he headlined the “1st Annual ‘No Host’ Christmas Party” Dec. 23 at the Elks Club in Waikiki. Paul Kim (steel guitar), left, Grammy Award nominee Mike Kaawa (12-string guitar) and Analu Aina (bass guitar) opened both sets performing as a tight trio before welcoming Kamae (one of the greatest Hawaiian ukulele players of the 20th century). Two highlights of the party were hearing, and watching, Kamae lead the quartet through “E Ku‘u Morning Dew” and “I Love Christmas.”

BOYS BUNCH BIDS ’08 ADIEU AT PEARL: Boys Bunch members Keith Rollman, left, Chairman Brad “Bad Brad” Coates, Ted Sturdivant, President-elect Mike Rossell and “King Richard” Turbin were looking forward to the new year as they gathered for their weekly Tuesday night Boys Bunch meeting at the Pearl UItra Lounge. Rossell assumes leadership responsibilities next Tuesday of the bunch, a professional association that combines weekly partying with public service projects.
REICHEL GUESTS AT NA LEO “SPECTACULAR”: Keali‘i Reichel, center, talked story with Fred Krauss, left, and guitarist Ben Vegas after the closing-night performance of “A Hula Christmas: Na Leo’s Holiday Music Spectacular” Dec. 19 in the Waikiki Nei Showroom. Reichel topped a great list of guest artists who joined Na Leo and more than 100 hula dancers for four nights of Hawaiian music and hula in Honolulu’s best new concert venue.

A STELLAR FINALE: Na Leo concert performer Kawika Kahiapo, center, greeted concert guests Bill Kaiwa and Amy Hanaiali‘i Gilliom after the closing-night show. Kahiapo performed with Barrett Awai as representatives of their quartet, Kaukahi. Kaiwa and Gilliom were acknowledged from the stage during the show, and both received an ovation from the audience.
