UH collection inspires fashions

Hawaii Fashion Incubator presents the "Threads of Hope Gala" from 6 to 10 p.m. today at Aloha Tower Marketplace, second floor.

The event will feature the debut of the "Art of Fashion" Showcase, multimedia artwork inspired by the University of Hawaii Costume Collection and breast cancer awareness.

A $10 cover charge will cover heavy pupu, complimentary wine and vodka bar, and music by DJ Silvana. Funds raised at the event will benefit the UH Costume Collection.

Tickets can be purchased at the Web site Hawaiifashion.org, where you can also see garments on display.

Find your fit and help fight cancer

Receive a complimentary bra fitting while helping find a cure for breast cancer at a Wacoal Fi(GH)t for the Cure event taking place at Macy's stores this weekend.

Get fitted in a Wacoal, DKNY Underwear or Donna Karan Intimates bra from a Wacoal fit specialist and sign up to receive a monthly e-mail reminder to do a self breast exam. For every woman who participates, Wacoal will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for breast cancer research and outreach programs. Wacoal will donate an additional $2 for every Wacoal, DKNY Underwear or Donna Karan Intimates bra purchased at the events, which take place as follows:

Costume kids with Disney

If you're in need of costumes for little ones for Halloween, the Disney Store offers dozens of G-rated costumes featuring kids' favorite film animation and TV characters. Among the best sellers this year is the Little Mermaid, Ariel, and for boys, Buzz Lightyear.

Little ones can also fulfill pop-star dreams with "Camp Rock" and Hannah Montana costumes, right down to a blond wig ($12.50).

Ribbon event at Ward

Cottage by the Sea at Ward Warehouse is hosting a Pink Ribbon Event Saturday and Sunday during store hours. All Breast Cancer Awareness jewelry pieces will be 20 percent off during the event. There will also be a pink ribbon sale, during which all items marked with a pink ribbon will be 40 percent off.

During the event, the boutique will be giving away an Awareness Pendant ($98 value) to two winners. The handmade piece by the designer Mindy is hand-stamped with the words "Health, Awareness" and "Celebrate, Hope." Mindy will also be donating 30 percent of sales of the pendant toward breast cancer research. Call 591-9811.

Find treasure in trash

TEMARI's 26th Trash & Treasure Fundraiser Fair returns Sunday with crafts by invited artists as well as donations sold in the trash tents, offered with the belief that one person's trash is another's treasure.

The event takes place in the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii's 5th floor Manoa Grand Ballroom. Doors will open at 8 p.m. to TEMARI members, with the public admitted at 9 a.m. The fair will be open to 2 p.m. Funds raised from the event sustain the organization's art programs and help support local artists. The nonprofit is celebrating 29 years of perpetuating Asian and Pacific cultural traditions.

Club Monaco has launched "See the World in Black & White Thursdays," celebrating B&W fashion photography and its classic B&W wardrobe palette.

The first of a monthly series of events hosted by stylist Blaine Ashley and online style magazine Lei-Chic will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30, featuring complimentary styling with Ashley, photography by Eric Wehner, music by DJ Rayne, desserts by Hokulani Bakery, cocktails by Three Olives, and 15 percent off purchases during the event.

To get into the Halloween spirit, guests are also invited to create their best black-and-white Club Monaco look. The best look wins a $250 shopping spree at the Ala Moana Center boutique.
