Free concert at Hulihe'e Palace

A free concert honoring King David Kalakaua takes place at 4 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of Hulihe'e Palace in Kona.

Performing will be the Merrie Monarchs and the halau Na Pua Ui O Hawai'i.

Also to be recognized are palace curator Lei Collins and bandmaster Charles "Bud" Dant.

The concert will take place on the south lawn; bring mats or chairs.

For those who'd like to arrive early or stay late, a free "chair check" will be offered across the street at Emma's Square from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Park your chair and enjoy the Kokua Kailua Village Stroll, when Ali'i Drive is turned into a pedestrian mall.

Hulihe'e Palace has been closed for repairs after suffering $1.5 million in damage in the October 2006 earthquake. Donations to the Hulihe'e Restoration Fund are accepted send checks to Hulihe'e Palace, 75-5718 Ali'i Drive, Kailua-Kona 96740.

Letarte opens in Paia

Letarte is opening its flagship store tomorrow on Baldwin Avenue in Paia, Maui. The luxury swim and cover-up brand was started by sisters Lisa Letarte Cabrinha and Michele Letarte Ross, who will donate 10 percent of the store's first week of sales to the Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter, toward preserving Hookipa Beach Park.

Holiday 'au naturel' makeup tips

Bravon Pascua, International Makeup Artist for Bare Escentuals, will be sharing tips on creating a holiday look "au naturel" during appearances at Sephora Ala Moana and Pearlridge, utilizing Bare Escentuals' line of bareMinerals free of preservatives, oils, fragrances and other chemicals.

The events will also feature the unveiling of Bare Escentuals' limited-edition kits including the Ruby Collection, Extreme Glimmers Kit, Bare Pleasures and bareMinerals Mineral Veil On-the-Go.

Pascua, who grew up in Hawaii, will be at Sephora Pearlridge from 2 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Make appointments respectively at 944-9797 or 487-0660.

Allisonizu making boutique debuts

After their debut last week, Allisonizu's exclusive petite denim line has found its way into two boutiques, with trunk shows this weekend allowing the opportunity to meet the designer and get fitted with the perfect pair of petite jeans.

First, the Butik will present a trunk show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at its 10067 Kapiolani Blvd. (Public Storage Building) location. There will be door prizes every half-hour, refreshments and a free tote bag with purchase for the first 50 people. Call 593-4484.

Split Obsession will host its trunk show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at its Koko Marina Shopping Center location, where there will also be goodie bags and prize giveaways, and those purchasing a pair of Allisonizu denim will also receive 20 percent off a top to complete the outfit. Call 395-3380.

Kahala Mall marks Holi-Diva Day

Saturday is Holi-Diva Day at Kahala Mall, an evening of fashion and fun, with discounts and one-night-only gifts with purchase from participating merchants, from 5 to 9 p.m. Highlights:

» Calista: Receive $20 off with every regular price purchase of $100 or more, excluding sale items.

» Jeans Warehouse: Receive a free tank top with a purchase of $40 or more.

» Liang of Hawaii: Receive a handmade Hawaiian-design shell pendant and black silk cord with a purchase of $50 or more.

» Marsha Nadalin Salon & Spa: Free haircuts to "Locks of Love" donors.

» The AVEDA Experience by Marsha Nadalin: Complimentary "Holiday Sparkle" makeup touch-ups at the kiosk.

» Riches Kahala: Trunk show will feature 20 percent jewelry and accessories from island designers Kimberly Le, Paradisus and Beachcomber Designs.

» Tastings: See product demonstrations and sample lilikoi cream cheese and roasted macadamia nut dressings at the Compleat Kitchen, and sample cookies and chocolate at Menehune Mac.

There will also be informal fashion modeling in the mall, including fashions from Adore, In My Closet, Jeans Warehouse, LensCrafters, Ohelo Road, Reyn's, Shasa Emporium and VUE Hawaii.

The mall has also started a Gift Registry program. Fill out a card with a list of your desired objects, and it will be mailed to the recipient of your choice. Call 732-7736.

For wahine only at Wedding Shop

Pacific Edge Magazine, Social Wahines and Fashionista's Market present "The Business of Networking" 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Wedding Ring Shop for a night of wahines-only shopping and networking.

On view will be a selection of Tacori fine jewelry, with bridal consultations by Studio W. Attendees can also bring in unwanted or broken gold, platinum or silver jewelry and trade it in for immediate cash back. It's like getting paid to socialize and shop while enjoying pupus served by Honolulu firemen and cocktails provided by Kai Vodka!
