Classes offer help on holiday grief
Practical advice and spiritual support for people who dread the holiday season because of changed family circumstances are offered in free classes at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu.
A session on "Surviving the Holidays" at 11 a.m. Nov. 15 is geared for people who have had a death in the family. The GriefShare workshop is part of a nationally recognized program. For information, call the church, 532-1111, or Lee Alden Johnson, 226-7511.
A similar DivorceCare program will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and Dec. 8 for families separated by divorce. For information call Al and Marsha Coscina, 254-3136, or the church, 532-1111.
The workshops will be at the church, 45-500 Kionaole Road, Kaneohe.
Volunteer banquet to praise work
Alice Tucker, board president of the Pacific Health Ministry, will be honored by Jewish Community Services for many years of volunteer service in community, religious and cultural organizations.
The annual volunteer award banquet will be at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Hale Koa Hotel Waikiki ballroom. Retired Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Steven Levinson will be the featured speaker.
Tickets are $65, of which $30 will benefit Jewish Community Services and is tax-deductible.
For reservation information, call Sue Alden-Rudin, 258-7121.
Tucker is retired as director of volunteer services with the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific and is past president of Temple Emanu-El. She has been an officer of the Hawaii Medical Association Auxiliary, Counseling & Spiritual Care Center of Hawaii, Manoa Valley Theatre and Outdoor Circle and a board member of the Honolulu Marathon Association and the Fujitani Lecture Series at Chaminade University.
