TAKABUKI HONORED BY JCCH: Matsuo “Matsy” Takabuki, seated right, high-profile financier, Bishop Estate trustee and longtime Democratic Party leader, was congratulated by his grandsons, Todd Takabuki, standing, and Cody Takabuki; their mother, Carolyn Takabuki; and family friend Estelle Green after he received the Japanese Culture Center of Hawaii’s Leadership and Achievement Award Sept. 27 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom. Jean Ariyoshi and Dr. George Suzuki were also honored for their contributions to Hawaii; Armstrong Produce, a locally owned food wholesaler whose corporate roots go back to Teruya Produce, was this year’s corporate honoree.

“PLAYLIST” PLAYS WELL FOR TRIO: Leocea Colean, left, Cody Colean and Ben Glenn gave “Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist” a thumbs up after a preview screening of the Michael Cera/Kat Dennings romantic comedy last Tuesday at the Ward Theatres 16. Glenn said it was “one of (Cera’s) good movies,” with “good romantic scenes (and) good having-fun scenes.” Leocea “liked the ending,” and Cody agreed “it was pretty funny.”
