Suspect sought in kidnapping

Police are looking for a man who kidnapped a 26-year-old prostitute downtown Sunday night, threatened her with a shotgun and demanded ransom from her boyfriend.

Police said a man in a vehicle picked up the woman on Kukui Street at 11:50 p.m. Sunday.

The woman reportedly agreed to have sex with the man for an undisclosed sum, police said. Afterward, the woman asked the man to take her to Kukui Street, where he allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a shotgun. He allegedly told her to call her boyfriend and tell him to pay up or he would kill her.

The woman's boyfriend paid the suspect, then called police. The woman was released about 8:45 a.m. yesterday.
