More than 150 people turned out yesterday afternoon in front of the county government building in Wailuku to watch Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares declare Nov. 25 as “Shane Victorino Day.” Victorino, who played a pivotal role in helping his Philadelphia Phillies become World Series champions, said he was thankful for the support that people of the county gave him while he was growing up on the Valley Isle. He asked the audience to give themselves a hand for helping him — and they did. “Now we all are world champions,” he said.
