“WOLF” FINE FAIR FOR FUTURE SYMPHONY FANS: “Lost” star Jorge Garcia, left, talked backstage with Honolulu Symphony Principal Conductor Andreas Delfs, Symphony First Vice-Chairman Peter Shaindlin and Executive Director Tom Gulick after narrating the symphony’s performance of “Peter and the Wolf” on Dec. 14 in the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Almost 1,000 children attended the Sunday matinee, and the occasionally humorous interaction between Garcia and maestro Delfs ensured that even the one dark moment in the story did not scare any of the younger kids.

A KOREAN CHRISTMAS FEAST: Samsil “Sam” Cannon, left, joined chef Patrick Choi and sushi chef James In as they supervised the Korean Care Home’s 2008 Holiday Party last Tuesday in Liliha. Choi and the Korean Chefs Club donated their time and all the food for the Korean feast — kalbi, kim chee and many other favorites — for residents and their guests.
Samsil “Sam” Cannon, left, chef Patrick Choi and sushi chef James In were joined by Korean Chefs Club members Mina Hong, Christy Kim, Min Hee Song, Andy Chang, Joon Chul Cho, Yun Rong Kim, Jae Kum Lee and Ji Young Lee as they surveyed the selections at the main buffet table. Whenever a tray or platter started to get empty another full tray or platter replaced it.
MARCHAN NAMED TOP EMPLOYEE: Richard Marchan, in the maile lei, was congratulated by Bill Barthelemy, left, Tony Sabatino and Sanj Sappal after he was named employee of the year Wednesday at Securitas Security Services-Hawaii’s “Annual Holiday Celebration” at the Halekulani. Marchan received a Toyota Camry, $10,000 cash and a giant souvenir check.
Honolulu City Prosecutor Peter Carlisle and Audra Stevenson were among Securitas’ guests. They chatted while waiting in service lines — beverages and a cosmopolitan section of heavy pupus were available in abundance.
Honolulu City Councilman Rudy Cachola, third from left, and his wife, Erlinda, arrived fashionably on time for the party and joined Amar Sappal, left, Kimo Kahoano, Sanj Sappal, Tony Sabatino, Bill Barthelemy and Danny Kaleikini in celebrating the holidays. Kaleikini stepped forward later in the evening to sing several Christmas carols – in Hawaiian and English -- with instrumental support from Steve Jones, Rocky Holmes and Kit Samson. Kahoano also entertained the crowd with several numbers.
“V-JUNKIES” OPEN V-LOUNGE: Russ Inouye, left, was joined Friday by Kelia Fu, Heather Hughson, Mike Nagasawa, Kanoe Sandefur, Blaine Tomita and Alana Kobayashi for the opening of the V Lounge. Inouye said that he and the other members of the Vertical Junkies event promotion team felt the time had come to build their own club, so they have taken over the old Venus Lounge and rebuilt it from the foundation up as a casual but upscale “spot to chill.” A schedule of special events is upcoming. www.verticaljunkies.com
