FALCON ON WINGS OF RECOVERY: A juvenile peregrine falcon recovered yesterday at the Honolulu Zoo after it was found in October in Nanakuli with its beak broken. Veterinarians rebuilt the beak with epoxy to allow the bird to eat. The original beak is now growing back enough to allow the falcon to be sent to a facility in Roseville, Calif., where it will be trained to hunt so it can be released back into the wild.
COURTESY PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY
This humpback whale washed ashore on Kauai yesterday. Initial reports noted no visible signs to explain the cause of death of the 17-foot female. The carcass was towed to the Pacific Missile Range Facility, where a
partial necropsy revealed internal organ problems.
