MIU MIU OPENS WITH GREAT PARTY: Food, drink and interesting people were available in abundance last Thursday when Sebastian Suhl, CEO of Prada Asia-Pacific, top left; Roberto Savian, Asia-Pacific regional retail operations manager; and Joseph Incao, area manager, co-hosted the grand opening of Miu Miu at Ala Moana Center. Grammy Award winner Tia Carrere and "American Idol" finalist Katharine McPhee looked fabulous modeling Miu Miu designs amid the wall-to-wall crowd of celebrities, fashion fanatics and social scenesters.

"Lost" star Michael Emerson, left, chatted at Miu Miu with Miss Hawaii Nicole Fox and film producer Chris Lee, who had returned to Honolulu earlier that day from Hong Kong, where he participated in two panels at the Asian Film Awards. Hard-core "Lost" fans will recognize Emerson's white linen jacket — he wore a copy of it on the show three years ago. It was a busy weekend for Emerson: He attended the grand opening of the Counter on Saturday and then judged the National Society of Arts & Letters Hawaii Drama Contest Sunday morning.

WESTLAKE BOOK A GIFT FOR "NOL": Jennifer Hamasaki and her husband, Richard Hamasaki, of the Hawaii Amplified Poetry Ensemble, brought a preview copy of their new book, "Westlake," to the CD release party for Brother Noland Conjugacion's album, "Hawaiian Man," March 22 at the Kani Ka Pila Grille. Richard has worked for years to publish the poems of Wayne Kaumualii Westlake — watch for "Westlake" to go on sale in May.

ACADEMY CELEBRATES PERSIAN NEW YEAR: Dr. Elehe Mir-Djalali Omidyar, third from left, presided at a celebration of Norez ("New Day"), the pre-Islamic Persian New Year, last Thursday at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Academy Board Chairwoman Lynne Johnson, left, Pierre Omidyar and academy Director Stephen Little joined her in welcoming guests to the party promoting cross-cultural understanding between the United States and Persia (also known as Iran).

THE COUNTER OPENS BIG: "Lost" fans and celebrity stalkers turned out in force as Daniel Dae Kim, second from left, "Jin" to fans of the show, celebrated the grand opening of his new restaurant, the Counter, with one of the season's great parties Saturday at Kahala Mall. Kim and his wife, Mia, left, chatted with cast member Jorge Garcia (Hurley) and Beth Shady while partyers sampled bite-size versions of several tasty Counter burgers and jockeyed for photo ops.
