Island Insurance Foundation recognized 12 public school principals nominated for the Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award. Nominees will receive $1,000 in cash and commemorative plaques. The winner and semifinalists will be selected and announced at the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation dinner in May.

Those from Oahu elementary schools are Elynne Chung, Pearl Harbor; Patricia Dang, Kapalama; Lanelle Hibbs, Kailua; Gwendolyn Lee, Kauluwela; Carmilita Minami, Waikele; Mitchell Otani, Kaneohe; Carol Petersen, Mililani Mauka; Nelson Shigeta, Makaha; and Stanley Tamashiro, Ewa. Neighbor-island nominees are Rene Yamafuji of Pomaikai Elementary on Maui; Janice Espiritu of Kaunakakai School on Molokai; and Karen Liu of King Kaumualii Elementary on Kauai.
