Hotel firm hires former HPD spokesman

A former Honolulu Police Department spokesman has been named director of safety and security for the Moana Surfrider and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotels in Waikiki, according to the management company Starwood Hotels & Resorts Waikiki.

Maj. Frank Fujii, a Honolulu police veteran for 32 years, served as the department's media liaison the last four years, ending last spring. In his new position, he will report to General Manager Frederick Orr and hotel Manager Gloria Cheung.

Fujii received recognition as the 2000 Police Officer of the Year. He continues to serve on the board of directors of the Honolulu Police Credit Union.

Fujii has his three children and coaches the Punahou School intermediate boys volleyball team.
