Vandals permanently scored graffiti yesterday on the display window fronting the Honolulu Zoo enclosure of orangutans Rusti and Violet, as well as at five other exhibits.

The vandalism occurred in broad daylight — between noon and 2 p.m. yesterday.

City officials assume that the graffiti stems from gang-related tagging activity, city spokesman Bill Brennan said.

City officials are asking that anyone who witnessed the vandalism come forward to report it.

The Komodo dragon exhibit was also tagged.

The city does not have a cost estimate for the damage.
