All lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard were reopened yesterday afternoon, after repairs were completed on two water main breaks.

A break occurred near the juncture between a 16-inch and an 8-inch main at 3:44 a.m. Thursday near the intersection with Keoniana Street. Both mains needed repair, and it was not clear which broke first or why, Tracy Burgo, Board of Water Supply spokeswoman, said yesterday.

The break damaged the roadway, cut water service to 12 buildings and caused major traffic congestion.

Repairs were complicated by other underground utilities, including a gas line that needed repairs after it was damaged but not ruptured.

The repairs were completed by 1 p.m. yesterday.
