The 16th Annual Links to Literacy Golf Tournament: A Benefit for the Friends of the Library of Hawaii raised $150,000. About 216 golfers took part in the tournament at Ko Olina Golf Club in September.

Ukulele Festival Hawaii, a nonprofit charitable organization established in 2004 by Roy and Kathy Sakuma, awarded its first scholarships to three seniors who enjoy playing the ukulele. Recipients are Colton R. Manley of Molokai High School, awarded $1,000; Alany-Grace Eder of Waiakea High in Hilo, $750; and Kauai resident Lance John Koa Delos Reyes of the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus, $500.

"Shining Stars" runs Sunday.
