Strong winds fueled a brush fire on Lanai, forcing the evacuation of a luxury hotel.

About 600 people, including guests and employees at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay, were evacuated to a park. Some boarded boats for Maui, but were allowed to return to the hotel before departing. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials say the blaze started shortly after noon Tuesday near the Palwai Basin. The fire burned an estimated 300 acres. Winds pushed the flames to within about a mile of the hotel.

Thirteen firefighters from Maui were sent to support Lanai firefighters. Three helicopters conducted water drops.
