Andrew Manley hit Cheves Aberilla Ramento for a touchdown pass in the first overtime to lead Leilehua to a 17-10 win over Kahuku in a state football semifinal at Aloha Stadium on Friday. Leilehua (11-2) defensive back Chas Acohido batted down a pass from Kahuku (10-2) quarterback Sage Kaka to end it.
Leilehua, the defending state champion, will play Punahou in next Friday's Division I state championship. The Buffanblu also won in dramatic fashion, beating Farrington 35-28.
The top-ranked Buffanblu (11-1) appeared to be running out the clock with a 29-22 lead and 26 seconds left when Farrington's Justin Velle recovered a Manti Te'o fumble. After the Govs (9-4) got to the Buffanblu 29, Robby Toma intercepted Dayton Kealoha's pass and returned it 74 yards for a touchdown. Farrington's Ani Isumu returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown as time expired.
The semifinal doubleheader attracted a turnstile crowd of 10,083.
Kahuku's defense dominated most of the game against Leilehua, and the Red Raiders led 10-2 with time running down. But Manley engineered a 10-play, 77-yard drive culminating in an 14-yard touchdown pass from Manley to Rico Newman, followed by a 2-point conversion pass from Manley to Edieson Dumlao to tie it with 1:37 left in regulation.
'Iolani beat Campbell 24-6 in a Division II semifinal and will play Radford in the final next Friday. The Rams beat Lahainaluna 33-27 at War Memorial Stadium on Maui.
