The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl didn't get a Pac-10 team as was earlier hoped for, but this might be even better.
Notre Dame was approved this afternoon by the NCAA to play in the Dec. 24 game against Hawaii.
Notre Dame (6-6) plays Hawaii (7-6).
"We are thrilled to have the University of Notre Dame," Hawaii Bowl executive director David Matlin said. "Notre Dame is a storied football tradition and we are honored to have both them and the University of Hawaii in our 2008 game."
Notre Dame played in the 1984 Aloha Bowl, losing 27-20 to SMU.
Hawaii and Notre Dame have played twice, the Fighting Irish winning both meetings at Aloha Stadium. Notre Dame escaped with a 23-22 win in 1997. In 1991, Notre Dame beat UH 48-42.
