Danielson named regional freshman of year

Five Hawaii volleyball players earned AVCA All-West Region honors, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association today.
Senior hitter Jamie Houston, junior hitter Aneli Cubi-Otineru and sophomore setter Dani Mafua were named to the regional team while freshman hitter Kanani Danielson and junior middle Amber Kaufman earned honolulu mention.
Danielson was also named the region's freshman of the year.
This is the third all-region pick for Houston. She’s averaging 4.06 kills, 1.83 digs and 0.76 blocks per set on the season.
Cubi-Otineru is hitting .281 with 2.44 kills, 2.25 digs and 0.35 aces per set. .
Mafua set the team to a .292 hitting percentage thus far, averaging 11.23 assists and 1.88 digs per set.
It's the first regional honor for Cubi-Otineru and Mafua.
Danielson is hitting .293 with 2.94 kills and 2.96 digs per set. She joins Kanoe Kamana`o (2003) as the only two region freshmen of the year in school history.
Kaufman is hitting .383 with 2.10 kills, 0.84 blocks and 0.50 aces per set.
The Rainbow Wahine face Purdue Friday (2 p.m. Hawaii time) in the regional semifinal in Fort Collins, Colo.
