Fire investigators have determined the cause of two fires — a house fire in Hawaii Kai on Monday and the other at Bob’s Big Boy Mapunapuna on April 13 — was accidental.
The Bob’s Big Boy fire was likely caused by a burner left on after the appliance was cleaned, according to a news release.
The fire reported at 2:50 a.m. caused $1.5 million in damage. The restaurant has been closed since the blaze.
Investigators determined the Hawaii Kai fire was probably caused by smoking material discarded in a wastebasket of a bedroom.
The fire at 157 Anapalau St. caused $330,000 damage to a three-bedroom home. One of the two women who lived at the home was injured trying to control the 5:45 p.m. fire.
The investigator also noted that the two smoke alarms found in the house did not have batteries installed.
