A 36-year-old Big Island motorcyclist and his 7-year-old son were killed when their motorcycle was struck by a sedan in Pahoa Sunday night on Ainaloa Boulevard.

The father was identified as Thomas G. Reimer and his son Thomas G. Reimer Jr.

The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the motorcycle was hit by a car making a turn into Ainaloa Boulevard.

Both riders, who were wearing helmets, were thrown from the  2006 Suzuki motorcycle that was traveling south on Route 130 when a 21-year-old Pahoa man operating a 1999 Mazda four-door-sedan traveling north turned left onto Ainaloa Boulevard.

The father and son were taken to the Hilo Medical Center where they were pronounced dead at 11:33 p.m.

A 21-year-old Pahoa man was arrested for two counts of negligent homicide, promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree and having no car insurance. He is being held at the East Hawaii Detention Center pending investigation.

This is the 10th and 11th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared with 11 at this time last year.
