One home was destroyed and another damaged in separate fires in the Waianae area last night and early this morning, but no one was injured.
Firemen extinguished a fire in about 25 minutes that occurred at about 11:40 p.m. Friday in the bedroom of a home at 89050 Farrington Highway, said Fire Capt. Robert Main.
Damages were estimated at $8,000 to the structure and $1,000 to contents, he said.
He said the home was occupied by an unknown number of adults and children who refused Red Cross assistance and went to another family member’s house, he said.
Waianae police said the fire was possibly caused by a cigarette.
A home at 85574 Plantation Rd. was destroyed by fire at 3:46 a.m., Main said. Three adults and four children in the house were able to leave safely.
Waianae police said the family was awakened by what sounded like an explosion in the garage area. The cause and extent of damages are under investigation.
Firemen had the blaze under control by 4:30 a.m., Main said. Red Cross is assisting the family, he said.
