Fire investigators believe a fire that damaged a Waianae Elementary School classroom last night was deliberately set and have turned the case over to the police.
The fire was reported by neighbors at 9:35 p.m. who used extinguishers which helped to limit the damage. Capt. Terry Seelig, fire department spokesman, said an employee of the school also used a fire extinguisher through a broken window.
Seelig said one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released.
He added that there was damage to the door of the school's library. Damage to the contents of the room was estimated at less than a $1,000, he added.
Waianae firefighters had the fire under control within five minutes after they arrived.
