Honolulu police officers issued 38 tickets and seven warnings yesterday to motorists who allegedly violated the city’s so-called cell phone ban.
The ban, which prohibits drivers from using hand-held electronic devices such as cell phones and video games while operating a vehicle, went into effect yesterday.
Hands-free devices for cell phones are allowed.
Honolulu Police Department spokesman Maj. Clayton Kau said a majority of motorists appear to be complying with the law.
First-time offenders must pay a $67 fine.
