Honolulu's Michelle Wie overcame a slow start with a strong charge on the closing holes today to shoot a 1-under 70 for a 9-under 204 and tie for 22nd at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.

Opening with a bogey at the first en route to a 2-over 36 on the front nine of the par-71 Highland Meadows Golf Club course in Sylvania, Ohio, Wie didn't card a birdie until the lucky 13th to drop her to 1 over for her round.

After parring the next two, including the 15th — a hole she bogeyed both times in the previous two rounds — Wie birdied the 16th for a third straight time to draw even for the day.

The closing two holes are par-5s where Wie had mixed results the first two rounds. She birdied No. 17 twice, but managed a par on Thursday at the relatively short closing hole, then a double bogey yesterday that kept her from being among the top three entering today's round.

Once again, Wie birdied the 17th, then closed with a two-putt par. Through three rounds, Wie has hit 26 fairways and 46 greens in regulation, averaging 262.83 yards off the tee. She has 91 putts and trails third-round leader Eunjung Yi (61) by nine shots.
