More than three dozen Honolulu firefighters returned this morning to battle a wild fire that has already scorched 250 acres in a remote area between Waiawa Correctional Facility and the Pearl City Industrial Park.
Capt. Terry Seelig, fire department spokesman, said the brush fire broke out around 3:40 p.m. yesterday, but firefighters were not able to contain it last night.
Firefighters, six fire engines, four water tankers and the department’s helicopter, which is being used for water drops, returned to the scene today.
“The fire is in a very remote area,” Seelig said, “and we have to shuttle water in using tankers.”
Firefighters have had to lay long relays of hoses to reach the hot spots, Seelig added.
The fire has not threatened any private property and there have been no injuries, Seelig added.
