Maekawa advances in Publinx
Honokaa graduate Sean Maekawa won his first match-play contest today but former Hawaii golfer Ryan Perez did not at the U.S. Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla.
Maekawa, an incoming junior at Oregon, defeated Robert Hoadly of North Carolina 4 and 3. The Paauilo resident plays Lion Kim of Michigan in tomorro's second round at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Perez, from Ewa Beach, fell to Luke Guthrie of Illinois 2-up.
