Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Chairman Micah Kane has been selected as a trustee for Kamehameha Schools.
State judge and probate Colleen Hirai selected Kane, who will replace retired Adm. Robert Kihune.
Gov. Linda Lingle issued a statement saying Kane has the skills, experience, heart and compassion to serve as trustee.
Lingle says she’s confident Kane “will do an outstanding job carrying out the will of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop in overseeing the governance of Kamehameha Schools.”
The 1883 will set up a nonprofit trust to educate Hawaiian children. The trust is Hawaii’s largest landowner and one of the nation’s largest charities.
