LAS VEGAS >> Freshman Paipai Falemalu is out and senior John Fonoti is unlikely to play Saturday against UNLV, Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin said today after practice as the Warriors continue to be plagued by injuries at defensive end.

At left end, junior Jake Heun will make his first Division I start, and Liko Satele will start on the right, the coach said. Elliott Purcell and Bo Montgomery are now No. 2 on the depth chart.

Heun made four tackles in his first game as a defensive end against Washington State last Saturday. He made one stop against Central Arkansas as a backup linebacker.

Falemalu injured an ankle at practice Wednesday. Fonoti is still recovering from a bruise kneecap two weeks ago. Both did not practice today.

"We're just getting hit at the end spot right now," McMackin said, noting the Warriors (2-0) are healthy elsewhere. "Lots of times injuries just hit you at one position."

McMackin said Fonoti would be a game-time decision, but also that he "doesn't think so," when asked if the senior would play.
