City activates Emergency Operations Center

The city activated its Honolulu Emergency Operations Center immediately following the issuance of the tsunami watch for the Hawaiian islands this morning.<P>Mayor Mufi Hannemann has been notified and officials are awaiting further updates from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Hawaii is under a tsunami watch, which means that a destructive wave may have been generated. Any wave would come after 1 p.m. <P>Honolulu’s Emergency Operations Center advises residents not to call 911, but instead monitor television, radio and Internet news reports for more information.<P>
