Honolulu's Michelle Wie didn't do enough on moving day with a ho-hum 72 in today's third round of the Navistar LPGA Classic played in Prattville, Ala.
Wie began the day two shots off the pace of several top-ranked golfers, including world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa. But while many took moving day to heart, Wie did not as her 54-hole total of 8-under 208 attests.
The Punahou School graduate dropped into a tie for 13th, some eight shots off the pace of Ochoa (66), who has a three-shot lead at 16-under 200. Wie opened with a sizzling 6-under 66 on Thursday, but is only 2 under over her last 36 holes.
The Stanford University student began the day bogey-birdie. She then bogeyed the par-4 sixth and doubled the par-3 seventh and was in danger of dropping out of a sight. The 19-year-old bounced back with three consecutive birdies at Nos. 8-10 to draw even for her round through 10.
The 6-footer, who sprained her ankle on Thursday, birdied the par 4 14th to get into red figures for the day, but closed with a disappointing bogey at the 18th. Through three rounds, Wie has hit 20 of 42 fairways and 45 of 54 greens in regulation. She is averaging 270.67 yards off the tee and has needed 93 putts.
