State Rep. Glenn Wakai is running for the state Senate.

The Democrat representing Salt Lake and Moanalua Valley hopes to replace Sen. Norman Sakamoto, who is running for lieutenant governor.

Wakai is a former TV news reporter who has served in the House of Representatives since his initial election in 2002.

Wakai says he will emphasize improving the economy through alternative energy, aquaculture and aerospace development.

Wakai is currently the vice chairman of the House Consumer Protection Committee. He's also president of High Impact Communications public relations firm, and he runs an organization called Reach out Pacific, which takes surplus medical and educational supplies to Pacific islands.
