A Venice, Calif., man who smashed a beer glass into the face of Hawaii-born actor Jason Momoa has been sentenced in Los Angeles to five years in prison.
Dominic Bando pleaded no contest to one count of assault with a deadly weapon and admitted to an allegation of great bodily injury, Deputy District Attorney Guillermo Santiso said in a news release. Bando was sentenced Tuesday.
Momoa stars in the SyFy cable network series "Stargate Atlantis," and received his start in acting in the "Baywatch Hawaii" and "North Shore" television shows filmed in Hawaii.
On Nov. 15, 2008, Bando argued with Momoa at the Bird Cafe in Los Angeles. Prosecutors said Bando struck Momoa in the face with a pint beer glass, which shattered. Momoa needed 140 stitches during reconstructive surgery.
Another court hearing is scheduled Nov. 24 to determine restitution.
