Big Island police are seeking witnesses to a sexual assault early Sunday morning in Kailua-Kona.
Police say a woman was waiting for a ride on Kuakini Highway around 1 a.m. when four men in their early 20s attacked her, injuring her face and neck. At least one of the men sexually assaulted her, according to police.
Police investigation has determined that one or more persons may have seen part of the encounter without realizing a crime was in progress. Detectives are continuing the investigation and believe that there were one or more witnesses to the attack.
Anyone with information on the crime should call Detective Gerald Wike at 326-4646, extension 302, or the Big Island police nonemergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
