Kaneohe home fire ruled an accident

The fire that destroyed one house and damaged another in Kaneohe last week started accidentally with a refrigerator in the garage, fire investigators have determined.

The exact manner in which the fire began is not known, Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said yesterday.

Last Friday, the 6:47 a.m. fire destroyed a single-family home at 45-906 Anoi Road and damaged a second home on the property. A man who lived in the second home injured his hand as he escaped the blaze.

A family of four was displaced in the first home but no one was home when the fire began. The fire caused $600,000 in damage.
