Firefighters are mopping up the remains of a 3-acre wild fire today on a ridge above Waianae.
About 40 firefighters in six engines, a quint, tower, two tankers, and a helicopter fought the blaze for almost 90 minutes, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Earle Kealoha.
The fire, reported at 12:28 p.m., was near 86-579 Paheehee Rd. and brought under control by 1:45 p.m., Kealoha said.
No one was hurt, and no property was threatened or damaged, he said.
A fire helicopter made water drops as firefighters fought the blaze from both sides of the ridge because they were concerned about the fire coming back down the mountain or spreading to the other side, Kealoha said.
